Nationwide Cucumber Recall Due to Salmonella Risks

Check your cucumbers purchased recently. SunFed Produce has recalled cucumbers sold nationwide at stores like Costco, Walmart, and Wegmans due to a Salmonella outbreak. This outbreak, confirmed by the CDC on November 27, 2024, has impacted approximately 68 people across 19 states. Symptoms of the infection, caused by Salmonella found in the intestines of various animals, include diarrhea, stomach cramps, fever, and vomiting.

Salmonella infections can take up to four weeks to surface, suggesting more cases may be unreported. If you have consumed cucumbers from these retailers and experience symptoms, seek medical attention promptly.

The affected cucumbers bear labels such as “SunFed,” or come in unmarked packaging like a generic white box or black plastic crate with a grower’s sticker indicating “Agrotato, S.A. de C.V.” They might also be labeled “SunFed Mexico.”

Consumers should discard any cucumbers without identifiable labeling and wash any other produce or surfaces they’ve contacted. This precautionary step is crucial to prevent further contamination. No deaths have been reported, but 18 out of 50 available cases required hospitalization.
