To avoid these pitfalls, experts recommend using a gentle cleanser suitable for your skin type. For instance, those with sensitive or dry skin should look for hydrating ingredients, while oily skin types must avoid over-washing with harsh products that can increase oil production and lead to further breakouts.
Kseniya Kobets, a director of cosmetic dermatology, advises using cream or oil-based cleansers with ingredients like glycerin or niacinamide for morning routines to prep the skin effectively. Even acne-prone individuals should adhere to the twice-daily cleansing routine, opting for non-comedogenic gel or water-based cleansers. Importantly, excessive washing can lead to increased oil production, underscoring the balance needed in skincare routines.
