Massive Recall of LG Electric Stoves Due to Fire Risk

A set of 500,000 LG electric stoves sold over the past decade is facing a recall due to being linked to over 28 fires across the United States, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. These stoves, available at Best Buy, Costco, Lowe’s, Home Depot, and other appliance stores, feature front-mounted knobs that can be accidentally activated, posing a risk of unintentional use.

The incidents have led to eight injuries, three fires resulting in the deaths of pets, and have caused property damage totaling $340,000. LG is addressing this issue by recalling the affected models. They will provide a warning label and instructions on using the stove’s Lock Out/Control Lock function, which can disable the knobs when the stove is not in use. Consumers can find the model numbers that are affected inside the oven door or storage drawer.

If you own one of these models or have questions, LG offers support via their hotline at 800-399-3265, available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or by visiting their website to request guidance on the recall process.

Additionally, the Consumer Product Safety Commission advises keeping children and pets away from the stove, ensuring it is turned off before sleeping or leaving the house, and keeping the stove clear of objects to minimize fire risks.
