Your reliable Stanley travel mug might pose a burn risk. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), 2.6 million Stanley travel mugs are being recalled nationwide due to reports of burn injuries. The issue arises when the mug’s lid threads shrink from heat and torque, potentially causing the lid to detach and leading to burns.
To date, there have been 91 reports globally, including 16 incidents of detached lids in the U.S., and 38 cases of burns have been documented worldwide, with two in the U.S. Additionally, 11 consumers required medical treatment.
This recall specifically affects all Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs available in the U.S. These mugs, sold in various colors like white, black, and green, and in sizes of 12 oz., 16 oz., and 20 oz., come with a polypropylene lid. Customers are strongly advised to discontinue use of these products and contact Stanley for a free replacement lid, shipping costs covered.
Be cautious: If you own either a Stanley Switchback or Trigger Action mug, do not use it for hot liquids. In case of a burn injury, seek medical attention immediately.
